Our Evaluation Framework

Every nonprofit Capital Good recommends has passed a rigorous, proprietary evaluation, assessed across six core pillars and scored on a structured rating system. We do not make recommendations on reputation alone. We make them on evidence.

01

Charity Verification

  • Before anything else, we confirm that an organization is legitimate, transparent, and accountable. We cross-reference every nonprofit against the leading independent watchdogs, assessing financial transparency, governance, leadership, culture, and community standing.

    • Candid (GuideStar)

    • Charity Navigator

    • Secretary of State registry

    • Qualitative signals such as GiveWell recognition, BBB Wise Giving Alliance review, Great Nonprofits community testimony

  • A compelling mission is not enough. We evaluate whether an organization's mission is clearly defined, consistently communicated, and genuinely reflected in its programming by assessing:

    • Mission clarity

    • Program alignment

    • Logic model or theory of change

  • A great mission means little if the organization cannot sustain itself. We conduct a thorough review of financial health, governance, and organizational resilience including:

    • Financial transparency

    • Revenue diversification

    • Expense allocation

    • Board engagement

    • Financial oversight

    • Risk management

  • It is not enough to do good work — organizations must be able to show it. We hold every organization to a high standard of evidence, evaluating:

    • Outcome measurement(s)

    • Program design

    • Community feedback

    • Staff feedback

    • Scalability

  • The most effective organizations are those genuinely reflective of the communities they serve. We assess representation, compensation, and organizational culture at every level.

    • Board, Leadership and Staff representation

    • Equitable compensation

    • Accountability culture

  • The final pillar is the most personal. Even the most exceptional nonprofit is the wrong recommendation if it does not reflect what matters to you.
